Fear The Walking Dead wrapped up an intense first half of the season with an epic midseason finale that not everyone survived.

Fear The Walking Dead managed to continue the intensity that it is had in every episode of season 3 so far with a powerful midseason finale. The two hour season finale started slow but built to a shattering ending that will change the Broke Jaw Ranch forever.

During the slow build of the first episode there were not many unexpected deaths. Some of Walker’s fighters were killed by Troy and a few militia members when they went on a stealth mission to save Alicia. At Madison’s insistence they snuck onto the reservation lands to grab Alicia, who was being held as a hostage.

Later on the militia members were poisoned by Ofelia, who put a powder later revealed to be anthrax in their coffee. As the militia members died and turned they attacked some of the residents of the ranch. So Ofelia managed to rack up a pretty high death toll at the ranch.

Still stuck at the resort Strand found the Abigail beached nearby. He boarded the wrecked luxury yacht and found it full of walkers. He killed the walkers and tried to get the Abigail operational. When he realized that he couldn’t he torched it. So the Abigail was another casualty of the apocalypse.

Jeremiah Finally Got What He Deserved

Jeremiah Otto was a problem that needed to be solved. Aside from his casual racism and disrespect for women his unpredictable behavior put the ranch in danger. But, Madison, Nick and Alicia learned that Jeremiah was more than just an unpredictable old coot. He had casually murdered several members of Walker’s family. That was the underlying reason for Walker’s feud with the Ottos.

Walker has a grudging respect for Madison and told her that the fight between Walker and the Ottos wasn’t her fight. But Madison has decided that the ranch is where they are staying. So even once she realized that Walker was actually right about Jeramiah she refused to change sides. Not out of loyalty to Jeremiah though. Just to keep her family safe.

Nick Is His Mother’s Son

After the conflict between the two groups passed the point of no return and an attack by Walker’s force was imminent Madison decided to take matters into her own hands. After revealing to Nick and Alicia that she had killed her abusive father when she was young she went to kill Jeremiah.

Walker had told Madison that he wanted Jeremiah’s head. That was the price to call off the attack and leave the ranch in peace. So Madison, always ready to do what has to be done, was ready to kill Jeremiah. But she wanted him to actually commit suicide to leave her hands clean. Of course he refused.

So Madison and Jeremiah were facing off and he was drunkenly posturing and berating her when Nick showed up. He started berating Nick. Nick calmly shot Jeremiah in the head. And it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving old racist. But Madison made it look like Jeremiah had committed suicide to protect Nick and herself.

The Future Of The Ranch

Madison delivered Jeremiah’s head to Walker. That means the ranch won’t face any further threat from Walker and his force. But the people of the ranch may be in more danger from Madison, Nick and Alicia then they were from Walker. If Fear The Walking Dead can keep up the intensity of season 3A in 3B this season will definitely be the best season of the show yet.
