Filming of The Walking Dead has been stopped following the tragic accident that sent a stuntman to the hospital in serious condition.

AMC has shut down production of The Walking Dead following an on-set accident that sent stuntman John Bernecker to the hospital in serious condition.

According an update from The Hollywood Reporter, both AMC and the Screen Actors Guild have issued statements after Bernecker fell over 20 feet onto a concrete floor on set. It’s not clear whether he was filming a scene or if this was just a very tragic accident. He was transported to Atlanta Medical Center, where he is in the intensive care unit.

AMC has issued the following statement about the incident:

"“We are saddened to report that John Bernecker, a talented stuntman for The Walking Dead and numerous other television shows and films, suffered serious injuries from a tragic accident on set. He was immediately transported to an Atlanta hospital and we have temporarily shut down production. We are keeping John and his family in our thoughts and prayers.”"

SAG-AFTRA also commented on the accident:

"“We have been informed of a serious injury to a SAG-AFTRA member on the set of The Walking Dead and are investigating the situation. As always, the safety and security of our members and others on set is of crucial concern to us and we are focused on this in our investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the performer and his family."

Bernecker’s condition is still not known. Bernecker’s girlfriend Jennifer Cocker posted about his condition on social media earlier in the day: “John deserves to be seen by every neurosurgeon and doctor there is until one of them sees the life we all know he has in him and bring him back to us… THIS ISNT [sic] FAIR.”
