Stuntman John Bernecker suffered a serious head injury while working on The Walking Dead set.

Prolific stuntman John Bernecker, listed in his early 30s, has been seriously injured in a fall on The Walking Dead set on July 12. Bernecker, a native of New Orleans, fell over 20 feet and landed on a concrete floor while filming. He suffered a serious head injury in the fall.

Bernecker was rushed to the Atlanta Medical Center and is currently in intensive care. While there haven’t been any official reports from AMC or doctors at the Atlanta Medical Center, The Hollywood Reporter indicates that Bernecker’s girlfriend/partner Jennifer Cocker has been posting messages about him on social media:

“John deserves to be seen by every neurosurgeon and doctor there is until one of them sees the life we all know he has in him and bring him back to us… THIS ISNT [sic] FAIR.”

The urgency and the emotion in Cocker’s post suggests that Bernecker’s condition is much more serious than has been made known.

It’s not clear whether Bernecker sustained the injury while performing a stunt or if this was an on-set accident. We’re still waiting for AMC to issue a statement on the situation, but we understand how hard this must be for the cast and crew of The Walking Dead.
