Exclusive Interview with Michael Greyeyes on Fear the Walking Dead
Michael Greyeyes sat down with Tameche Brown and fellow Undead Walking writer Tracey Phillips to discuss his role as Qaletaqa Walker on the show.
During our interview Michael shared he was a fan of the show prior to being cast in his role. He gave insight into his relationship with Ofelia and what exactly their bond consists of and how it is developed. We chatted about his heritage as an indigenous person and what effect this had on his acting career and his role on the show. He shares his take on whether he considers his character a savior or a cold blooded killer.
He did not shy away from questions regarding racism and stereotypes that often accompany indigenous people on screen. As an actor, educator and dancer he uses his many platforms to start the conversations and bring awareness to those individuals who might have missed it.
We found Michael very easy to converse with. He provided in-depth knowledge into a few parallel story lines within Fear the Walking Dead and the history of Native Americans.
He mentioned a few themes that can be traced back to the history books during colonial times when Native Americans were decimated due to the “Biological Warfare” of small pox. This same idea is used in the mid -season finale when Anthrax is introduced.
It is refreshing to hear the excitement of Michael as he discusses his up coming panels and interviews with fellow Fear the Walking Dead cast members at San Diego Comic-Con.
