The Walking Dead: Update on production delays and SDCC
Amid the tragic loss of stuntman John Bernecker, questions abound about The Walking Dead’s schedule. It’s important to pay attention and check sources in this uncertain and tragic time.
We all love The Walking Dead and can’t wait for the show to return. However, given the tragic loss of stuntman John Bernecker, the reality is that an investigation into the accident can take days, weeks and even months. There are a lot of questions out there right now among the TWD family and we want to present to you what we know as well as some of the things that could happen. We also want to make sure that people are not perpetuating rumors.
The only thing that has been confirmed so far is that production on the show has been halted since July 12, per an announcement from AMC directly. The longer productions remains shut down, the higher the likelihood that these delays could impact the show’s season premiere date. Nothing has been announced about the show’s season premiere at this point.
We know from previous OSHA and SAG-AFTRA investigations that an investigation can take up to six months in some cases. These are two separate investigations that can function at the same time but won’t necessarily work together or arrive at the same conclusion. They are two separate entities. There is no way to know how long an investigation can take.
We know that the local police closed their investigation already after speaking to witnesses; the incident was ruled an accident. But even though their case is closed, that doesn’t mean that the other two
The cast is scheduled to appear at San Diego Comic Con from July 19-23. The season 8 trailer is scheduled to debut during The Walking Dead panel on Friday, July 21. There is a possibility — though nothing has been acknowledged or confirmed at this point — that the cast could skip the convention. We do not know if this is the case, but given the traumatic events of the past week it would certainly be understandable. It’s also possible that in lieu of cancelling outright, The Walking Dead presence could be scaled back from what was originally planned. (Again, we have no confirmation about this)

So, for now, the TWD Family must wait for information from AMC about when production will get started again and what we can expect to see from SDCC this year. Until then, anything that isn’t coming directly from AMC is not necessarily true and should be taken with a grain of salt until confirmed.
