10 predictions for The Walking Dead season 8

3. Gregory Is A Goner
The lackluster leader of The Hilltop is definitely not going to survive long into season 8. Maggie is now firmly in charge at The Hilltop. The people of Hilltop like her, and they respect her. Now that she’s led them against The Saviors and they know that they can fight The Saviors with the other communities they won’t allow Gregory to keep them under The Saviors’ rule anymore.
It was implied at the end of season 7 that Gregory had run off to The Sanctuary to get Simon’s help keeping control of The Hilltop. But after the battle at Alexandria Simon’s going to know that Gregory is out as the leader at The Hilltop. And Negan knows that Maggie is alive now and that Daryl is back with Rick. The leverage that Gregory had is gone.
So the people of The Hilltop don’t want him, and they have a new leader they love. Negan doesn’t need another useless and ineffectual bureaucrat hanging around. Simon is probably going to be pretty angry that Gregory was hiding Maggie and Daryl. That means that Gregory won’t have any group to protect him. But he will have two communities that want him dead.
If he returns to The Hilltop, which he might do, he’s probably not going to live too long there. In the comics Maggie has Gregory executed. That would be a fitting way for Gregory to leave. But whether it’s at The Hilltop or whether he dies at The Sanctuary there’s no way Gregory is going to be around for long. Frankly, his death is long overdue.
