The Walking Dead launching fan rewards program and subscription box
By Sonya Iryna
The Walking Dead has always been appreciative of fan support. Now AMC is giving fans a rewards program and a new The Walking Dead subscription box.
Two new opportunities were announced recently for fans of The Walking Dead. At a Wrap event, the president of AMC announced that a new fan rewards program will begin in September. AMC will also be selling a new The Walking Dead themed subscription box that will give fans access to exclusive merchandise and unique items.
The rewards program is the first of its kind. It will encourage fans to actively engage with the fandom. Fans will be able to get points for posting about the show on social media, creating fan art, and participating in fan events.
Fans can then use those points to get merchandise and other rewards. The most actively engaged fans will even be able to use those points for exclusive experiences like meeting cast members or getting a personal tour of set.
The subscription box is similar to the subscription box already being sold by Skybound. Boxes will be sent out quarterly. Each box costs about $50 and will contain limited edition and exclusive items like mugs, shirts, and collectibles.
Both programs are set to launch in September so fans will have plenty of time to start gathering points before the season premiere of The Walking Dead on October 22nd.
The Walking Dead Has A Unique Relationship With Fans
Many shows value their fans, but The Walking Dead has always been appreciative of the fan support. AMC is one of only a handful of networks that goes out of its way to encourage fan engagement. Several times AMC has created fan centered commercials thanking fans for their support of the show. The network also encourages and highlights fan art and cosplay.
Talking Dead, an aftershow for AMC’s zombie dramas, also highlights fan creativity and cosplay. Fan art for the show runs the gamut from digital edits to unique works of art and fan fiction.

Fans Are More Important Than Ever
AMC President Charles Collier knows that it’s the fans who have made The Walking Dead the number one show on cable TV for several years running. He told The Wrap:
"“Much has been written about the ‘Golden Age of Television’ and yet our focus on fans and the loyalty and passion they’ve shown for our content has proven this to also be a ‘Golden Age of Fandom,’ a time when engagement has never meant more,”"
And that’s true. In the digital age fandom has exploded and is critical to the success of a show. The Walking Dead’s fans are some of the most loyal, engaged, and active fans of any show. The cast and crew of The Walking Dead often acknowledge that the show wouldn’t be the worldwide smash that it is without the fans.
