So… Which one of these weaknesses is likely to be the most damaging?

Negan does seem to have many weak points, all of which have to do with his bad handling of information: he does not know the people around him well enough, he lets his enemies know too much about him, and he’s been neglecting to collect intelligence on what is going on outside the Sanctuary.

Will Negan try to fix the problems?

It is not impossible that Negan might fix some of these problems after what happened in the season 7 finale. He was undoubtedly shocked and angry when he realized the extent of his ignorance. Sure, he did land the first blow with the betrayal of the Scavengers, but then, it was a long series of surprises for him: Sasha double-crossing him and ruining his big show, the arrival of the Kingdom and the Hilltop, Maggie and Daryl in Alexandria, and Shiva mauling several of his men… Maybe Negan will have realized the importance of getting information. It is, however, probably too late to start building a network of spies now that the war has started.

Will Dwight’s  betrayal be the most important factor?

Negan could be facing multiple betrayals, and it would be nice to have surprises. Still, the characters that appear most likely to do much damage to him are Dwight and Eugene. Dwight now has nothing to lose, and still has Negan’s trust: Negan trusts him so much that he swallowed his feeble story to cover Sherry, and even killed his doctor based solely on Dwight’s words. He did not even seem suspicious when Dwight told him he had killed Sherry. There is no reason to think that Negan suspects anything regarding Dwight.

Can Eugene regain Negan’s trust, only to betray him?

As for Eugene, he is already suspected by Negan, so he would have to tread very carefully, but we know he can pull it off. We know Eugene is exceptionally good at lying, and Negan has shown that he was not such a good judge of character, after all – he did completely fail to convert two out of three prisoners. The trailer didn’t show Eugene, which only adds to the mystery… It would be very interesting to see Eugene work to regain Negan’s full trust, only to betray him when the time is right. Possibly by making him a flawed secret weapon, Galen Erso-style?
