Fans who didn’t like the feel of the show’s pacing in previous seasons will be happy to hear about plans for The Walking Dead’s eighth season.

Remember when it felt like years passed on Hershel’s farm back in season 2 of The Walking Dead? It was so slow that it was almost too hard to follow. Where is Sophia, Maggie likes Glenn, Andrea keeps shooting people, Shane’s going crazy…a lot happened and yet it still felt like it was dragging. Fans had the same complaint after season 7 felt like it was moving slowly and was too choppy with all of the bottle episodes mixed in. Now The Walking Dead showrunners are promising change in season 8, which could be welcome news for many fans.

The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman told an audience at the Televisions Critics Association press tour that The Walking Dead has been building a story over the past two seasons (hence all of the bottle episodes), and now it’s all falling into place:

"“We’ve got all these different factions, all these different locations – the Hilltop, the Sanctuary – and getting all these people together and continuing to expand the scale in a cool way, but really using all these pieces to their fullest. We’ve spent a lot of time setting these characters up, and now we’re going to bash them against each other and see what happens…. This is another  continuation of that; this is a very fresh take on the world of The Walking Dead, and we’re going to be breaking a lot of new ground this season.”"

It’s very reassuring to learn that the stories are going to be playing out in season 8. With so much affection devoted to The Walking Dead’s characters, it was hard to watch them separated for an entire season, and it was even hard to keep track of when you have characters like Enid moving between communities.
