Greg Nicotero of The Walking Dead developing new horror show for AMC
By Sonya Iryna
AMC is doubling down on horror shows thanks to the continued success of The Walking Dead. At TCA it was announced that Greg Nicotero has a new horror anthology coming to AMC.
The Walking Dead is still the top show on TV. And AMC isn’t switching up a formula that works. The network is known for taking chances on shows that other networks are hesitant to back. And it has a slew of horror and sci-fi shows in development.
One of the new horror shows is the creation of The Walking Dead ‘s Greg Nicotero. Nicotero has directed some of the most iconic episodes of The Walking Dead. And his special effects team continues to create the most stunning and disturbing monsters on TV.
According to Eentertainment Weekly he will be bringing both skills to a new horror anthology called Shock Theater. The show will tell different stories that are both horror and science fiction themed but will be done in classic B horror movie style.
Shock Theater will be AMC’s first horror anthology series. But with a master like Greg Nicotero involved in the creation of the show and serving as executive producer the show should do well.

AMC’s Other Anthology Shows
Shock Theater isn’t the only dark themed anthology series in development. There are two others that will be added to the AMC lineup. Chris Hardwick’s production company is working on a series called Underbelly . That show will present stories centered on the dark side of pop culture, fandom, fame, and other topics.
The other anthology is a Wild West themed non fiction series that will center on historical crime and horror. The show, Wicked West, will focus on tales of real crime, mythology associated with the Wild West, and the lives of historical figures.
AMC’s Commitment to Horror
With these new anthology shows AMC will have possibly the biggest slate of horror and science fiction shows on cable TV. AMC took a huge chance on The Walking Dead . And it paid off big for the network. It looks like they are doubling down on their commitment to horror and science fiction because they know that fans want high quality genre shows like The Walking Dead.
