On this International Cat Day, let’s take a moment to talk about the unsung heroine of The Walking Dead, and our hopes that she makes it through All Out War.

There have been quite a few animals on The Walking Dead and they don’t always make it out alive. From horses to dogs to furry forest creatures, nothing is safe. The season 7 finale saw King Ezekiel’s tiger Shiva swooping in to save the day. No one, positively no one, saw her coming. And that’s why I hope she sticks around.

Let me make my customary disclaimer here: I haven’t read The Walking Dead comics. I don’t know what Shiva’s fate is, just as I don’t know the fate of anyone else on the show. I’d just like, for once, to see an animal survive on the show if only to see it happen. And if you’re going to keep an animal around, it ought to be a badass tiger.

The problem with pet tigers on The Walking Dead is the same problem with having three dragons on Game of Thrones – namely, they’re expensive to bring to life. CGI effects are not cheap, so you don’t see these creatures very often. That’s all the more reason to keep Shiva around, right? We don’t have to see her all the time, just every now and then when having a tiger around would be cool. Preferably with Jerry around. Shiva and Jerry are great together.

So on this International Cat Day, let’s give props to everyone’s favorite tiger Shiva, and thank her for all of the great things she did to save the day in Alexandria. And let’s also send positive thoughts her way that she lasts longer than the other animals on The Walking Dead.
