Endless possibilities with The Walking Dead creator Kirkman at Amazon
With news of Robert Kirkman leaving AMC for Amazon, imagine the possibilities of another spinoff on the streaming service.
The Walking Dead fandom was rocked by news of Robert Kirkman’s departure from AMC for Amazon. We know The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead were born at AMC and won’t be going anywhere, but Kirkman and Skybound’s new first-look deal with Amazon has some interesting possibilities for future stories.
We’ve talked before about whether or not the TWD Family would prefer the ability to have all of the episodes of The Walking Dead available at one point. No more waiting each week for a new episode. What if you could have the entirety of season 8 available on October 22? Fans were divided. There was definitely a “too much of a good thing” vibe going around, with many fans worried that having the entire season at once would great for that single day of binging. Since we know The Walking Dead isn’t going anywhere, and the format of the weekly episodes isn’t going to change, let’s think about what could happen in the future.
The Walking Dead takes Europe
There are so many tales from The Walking Dead universe that could be told, ones that have nothing to do with the characters we know or the stories we know from the comics. What if a new Amazon spinoff went in an entirely new direction and followed a group of survivors in the UK? We know there are tons of European fans of The Walking Dead, so why not branch out with this new format? Since it would be on Amazon, you don’t have to worry about censorship. You can have all of the language, sex and violence you want.
You’d also have a new landscape to play with. Why not take over the Louvre as a shelter, or have a lookout on the Eiffel Tower? You could navigate the canals in Venice while watching for water Walkers, or hold up in a British pub for as long as you can.
With the availability of streaming an entire season upon release, launching a new series would allow for faster buy-in. Being able to watch and embrace a new series could really help launch a new franchise for Kirkman and Skybound in ways that weren’t available previously.

A Brave New Era for Skybound
There is a ton of creativity floating around the Skybound offices. Imagine what we can look forward in the coming months and years from this new relationship with Amazon. While it may look like this is an ending, the reality is that Kirkman’s first-look deal was already set to expire with AMC. Amazon seized upon the opportunity to lure Kirkman away with a bold new platform to work with.
The move to Amazon could provide a whole new level of programming from Skybound, and with The Walking Dead going strong on AMC, it’s a win-win scenario for fans.
