While the TWD Family can safely assume that Daryl Dixon isn’t going anywhere on The Walking Dead, star Norman Reedus reflects on how he’d like his character to go.

“If Daryl dies, we riot,” is the battlecry of dedicated fans of Daryl Dixon, one of the most beloved characters on The Walking Dead. Though there is no indication that Daryl is going anywhere, the actor who brings him to life has a sense of how he’d like his character to die. The truth is, though, that star Norman Reedus really doesn’t want his character to go anywhere.

In a recent interview with CNET Magazine, Reedus talks about how he’d like Daryl to die if the moment ever came about:

“I think you’d see a sunset. I would walk up over a hill and then a little wolf puppy would come out of the woods and follow me up. And people would just go, ‘Whatever happened to that guy?’”

It would be a touching tribute to a beloved character, for sure, but Reedus doesn’t want it to actually happen.

The fact is, though, that Reedus doesn’t want Daryl to die and he has no plans to leave the show. It’s really refreshing to see stars like Reedus who care so much about their characters. So often you see stars looking to break away from roles to take on new projects. Norman Reedus is someone who not only embraces his character on The Walking Dead, but he continues to take on other projects to keep things interesting.

Reedus loves how Daryl has evolved over the years and sees Daryl’s relationship with Rick as the brother he never had in Merle. At the core, Reedus sees The Walking Dead about “a guy who was just trying to find his family” and in so many ways, Daryl has found himself a family along the way.

The TWD Family can rest [reasonably] assured that Daryl isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, which is a good thing. Now we just have to survive these last few months before the season 8 premiere on October 22.
