Returning home?

Pam Smith “Why is Maggie making Hilltop her home after Glenn’s murder. She could’ve moved to a different house within Alexandria if the memories & mementos were too painful. Wouldn’t she need the support of her longstanding group to help her mourning process? I know there was Dr. Carson to consider, but she could’ve traveled there as needed.
I guess I’m a little confused why she would leave everyone else in Rick’s group, which is more family than friends, when you consider everything they’ve survived together.”

Maggie leaving Alexandria for The Hilltop was done for several reasons. Firstly, her being close to medical personnel was a major bonus, but she was also furious at Rick Grimes for being unable to keep his people in line, causing the death of Glenn in the TV series.

More from Undead Walking

After a while, the people of The Hilltop started to look up to her for her strength. She looked much more like a leader than Gregory, opening the door for her to stay in the community and even recruit people like Enid and Sasha to join her there.

It also created more of a link between the two communities in order to make fans care more. Much like how Carol and Morgan went to The Kingdom and (to a lesser extent) Carl and Daryl spent some time at The Sanctuary.

As for Maggie, she likely feels like the people of that community need her there to keep them strong, even though her doctor is no longer there. She always had those leadership qualities, but these people are bringing out the best in her, and she doesn’t want that to stop.
