The Dead Truth is a new addition to the lineup of The Walking Dead  and apocalypse themed events at Walker Stalker Atlanta for 2017. Here’s everything you need to know about this immersive event.

The Dead Truth is an immersive event that will put participants in The Walking Dead apocalypse world. The Walking Dead fans got a taste of The Dead Truth last week when  Walker Stalker Con started a social media marketing campaign for the event on Facebook and Twitter.

The Dead Truth is a new event that will take place just before Walker Stalker Atlanta in October. It combines elements of survival with a scavenger style hunt that will give fans a unique opportunity to test their own survival skills.

Recently I got the chance to ask Nick Floyd, the Creative Director/Writer of this event what it’s all about. When I asked how the concept for The Dead Truth came about Nick said:

"“Ever since the ‘Escape Room Boom,’ I’ve been a fanatic of the concept. The idea that you can be fully immersed in another world for an hour is extremely fascinating to me as a storyteller. As the concept has spread around the world and immersive theatre has grown with it, I’ve always dreamt of writing an immersive experience that plays out like a film. An experience that allows the participants to feel like they are each playing a specific character. After attending SDCC this year and seeing all of the different immersive experiences, it seemed like now is the time to build something from the ground up to debut at Walker Stalker Atlanta. I wanted to take a little something from all types of immersive experiences and put them into one long and epic journey through the city of Atlanta. The Dead Truth is not only a love letter to immersive theatre; but, a love letter to WSC attendees.”"

Playing The Game

Players will start at the home of WSC Atlanta the Georgia World Congress Center. There they will start with some tests and puzzles that will begin the event. After that they will get their “mission” and be given clues to their first location.

The event is styled like a scavenger hunt. Players will need to go to different locations and solve a puzzle in order to get the location of the next clue. When they get to the final location they will need to make it through the location past the undead who will be trying to stop them. If they survive and make it to the end to complete the story before the other players they will win. The prizes have yet to be revealed but Nick said that no one will be disappointed with the prizes. There will only be 4 winners of the event. But everyone who participates and makes it to the cocktail mixer afterward will get something.

Participation is limited to 100 players.  The participants will be divided into 5 groups of 4 players. Each group will start at a different location around the city. Most of the locations will be walkable from the starting point but for some a vehicle is required. The locations won’t be more than 10 minutes from the city center.

The event has a time limit of three hours. Players will be competing against the other teams to solve the clues at each location and make it to the final location. The first team to successfully solve the puzzles and make it to the final location alive will win. Immediately after the event there is a cocktail mixer.

The Story

So what is the storyline for this intriguing event? Well that’s being kept under wraps for now. The ticketholders will receive email updates revealing pieces of the story as the event gets closer. But, Nick said that if he had to describe the story in three words those words would be: “undead, conspiracy and contamination.”

Walking Dead fans who have always wondered how they would fare in The Walking Dead world now have a chance to find out. This unique experience will go beyond just basic survival. You’ll have to use your wits and work as a part of a team with people who you may have just met in order for all of you to survive together. Do you think you have what it takes to be a survivor?  If so, you’ll need to get your tickets for The Dead Truth pretty quickly because only 100 potential survivors can play.

The Dead Truth Details

Tickets are on sale now. Tickets for the game are $20. The cocktail mixer tickets are $10. If you want to play the game and attend the mixer you will need to buy a separate ticket for each. And if you just want to attend the mixer you can. The mixer will be a chance to hang out with some other TWD fans and do a little networking so even if you don’t want to play the game, or if you are too late to get a ticket, you can still join the fun.

When you buy your ticket and enter your email you will start to get more information about the story as well as information about the event. The Dead Truth takes place on Wednesday, October 25th. It’s the perfect way to kick off Walker Stalker Atlanta. Although if you’re planning on coming to town for WSC you may need to come a day or two early in order to get in on this event. But it’s worth it.

Tickets

After you buy tickets you can print the tickets at home or pick them up at the Georgia World Congress Center. There will be a check in area for players where you will get more information for the hunt and pick up your tickets if you need to. You can get tickets here.

You can find answers to more detailed questions about the event on The Dead Truth website. Right now The Dead Truth is a one-off event in celebration of WSC Atlanta’s 5th anniversary, but it’s entirely possible that other WSC’s could get their own version of The Dead Truth in the future.
