5) They don’t care about other people. AT ALL.

When people are good, it stems from their capacity to care about people they may have little-to-no connection to. History is littered with people braving all manner of dangers to protect or rescue complete strangers. Yet, when people do not care about people, the tragedy is in equal measure.

When people don’t care about others, they will be perfectly okay with letting all manner of atrocities be committed, so long as it doesn’t affect them.

Let’s take a look at my good buddy, The King of The “That Guy”s: Martin, and see how this applies to him.

Why was Martin okay with snapping a baby’s neck? Because he didn’t care.

Why was Martin impatient with Gareth’s attempts to negotiate a surrender from Father Gabriel? Because he didn’t care about being diplomatic.

Why was Martin okay with Carol launching a siege on Terminus? Because he didn’t care about any of them.

And why was Martin okay with cannibalism, more so than Gareth? Because, he didn’t care.

When you don’t care about other people, why should cannibalism bother you? You don’t see them as equal, you don’t value their lives in any way, so, in that context, cannibalism makes a warped kind of sense.

And that is why you need to watch out for such people. If you come across someone who doesn’t care about anyone, get them out of your life ASAP.

Such a person would likely abandon or even betray your group at the earliest convenience, so long as they thought they could get out okay. If they’re not part of your group, it just means that any manner of gruesome or inhumane things are acceptable in their eyes because…it’s simply not happening to them, meaning they wouldn’t care if it happened to you.

You meet someone like them, ditch’em at the first opportunity, preferably far away from where you’re heading. The sooner, the better.
