#4. What the world is out there isn’t what you saw on TV
The nice thing about The Walking Dead is that it has a great source material. However, there have been plenty of times when the hit AMC show has deviated from the popular comic book series to give viewers a unique experience.
For fans of the comics, these little changes can be VERY amusing. However, not all of them are always improvements on the stories told in the graphic novels. Because of that, there is always a situation where some changes are for the better, and some for the worse.
I’m readying myself for hate mail on this, but there is one huge difference that so far hasn’t paid off in any real way on the TV show.
In the comics, The Governor’s assault on the prison is how Lori dies…not during childbirth. However, she doesn’t die alone. The bullet that kills her also kills Judith. While the death of Lori was an upgrade, keeping Judith alive has changed the show in odd ways.
Often times, fans can be left wondering what is happening with the child and she’s become an afterthought on the show. Plus, she becomes the symbol of hope for the future instead of Carl, which makes his character far less valuable going forward.
Not only that, but having a child grow up on the TV timeline is virtually impossible. Different child actors have to be brought in at least every season to show growth, and some of the new faces haven’t matched up to the previous ones very well.
Overall, it’s just a strange decision. While I’m not advocating killing kids on the show, keeping Judith alive was a bold move by the AMC show…and not one I’m sure has paid off in any kind of way.
