Alicia and Jake: The power couple of Fear the Walking Dead
Alicia and Jake Otto share an unusual apocalyptic relationships, but it’s quite possible that we’re watching a future apocalypse power couple.
Fear the Walking Dead returns September 10 and we’ll have a chance to see how the relationship between Alicia Clark and Jake Otto has fared. She has a lot of life experience and he has lived his life toeing the line between the laws of the United States Constitution and his father’s laws. Jake’s brother terrorized Alicia’s family, and Alicia’s brother killed Jake’s father. It’s a very complicated love affair, but this young apocalypse power couple has a lot going for them.
Their relationship started out of physical attraction, not to mention that there aren’t a lot of people their own age out there. Alicia also felt a kinship with Jake because they both have brothers who have caused ruptures within their families. But Alicia is a realist and she knows that her family is only welcome at Broke Jaw Ranch so long as the welcome mat is out, so having a relationship with one of the founder’s sons helps extend the welcome. Alicia told her mother that she likes him but she also knows they need him. She doesn’t hide the fact that his utility is more important than her feelings.
Jake also feels a kinship with Alicia, but I suspect that his feelings for her are a lot stronger than hers are for him. Jake has been at the ranch for so long, surrounded by people who do not share his perspectives. He appreciates her level-headedness and the fact that she is about as “normal” as they come, which is refreshing.
There is a lot they can learn from each other. Jake teaches Alicia how to shoot while Alicia teaches Jake about the new world order and what it’s like outside the ranch. This is where their relationship gets interesting. Both are very capable of surviving on their own, but together they are a pretty strong force. If they continue along this path, it will help Madison’s plans to protect the ranch and Jake will be able to be with people who are closer to his own views, because Lord knows Jake and Troy are polar opposites.
