#3. Right through the very heart of it

Creator of the franchise, Robert Kirkman has come out and said on multiple occasions that he will never reveal an absolute answer as to what caused the outbreak in either the comic book series or the hit television shows.

Still, despite that statement, Kirkman has also said that he knows in his mind what the cause of the outbreak really is, making fans wonder just what the reason behind this zombie outbreak is and if it could have been prevented.

Sadly, some answers divide people politically. The most popular theories involved inoculations being tainted or hormones in food causing the problems, but since everyone is infected, it would more logically be something airborne or in the water.

Or, it could be something very simple. Personally, I like to think of it as a virus that modified itself over the years to be ultra strong and lay dormant with no signs of transmission until other bodily functions end.  However, we will likely never get a definite answer on the subject.
