Ezekiel And Jesus Expect A Victory

King Ezekiel knows that the Hilltop’s doctor, who happens to be an obstetrician, has been confiscated by the Saviors. He tells Maggie that they have an excellent doctor back at the Kingdom and she’s welcome to join them to receive care for herself and her unborn child.

Before she can respond, Jesus says that they’re going to get Dr. Carson back from the Saviors. Ezekiel smiles and says that “as sure as the day defeats the night” they will indeed get their doctor back. This day marks the turning point when they start rebuilding their communities for the future. That future, he says, is for Maggie’s unborn child and all of the other children that are to come. “So let’s get started,” he says, walking away.

This is a pivotal moment. The Battle for Alexandria at the end of season 7 showed that they can push back and that they were able to send the Saviors on the run. They have a newfound confidence that wasn’t there before; Jesus is confident that they will get Dr. Carson back and Ezekiel is confident that they will win the war. Though they are all on the brink of a major war that will have lasting implications for everyone, neither man seems to be afraid of losing.
