“Close Enough”

In the next scene, Tara looks at her watch. She’s chewing a piece of licorice and counting down while Carol, Daryl and Morgan wait nearby. They’re watching a stretch of highway. For the moment, it’s deserted with no one in sight.

Tara reaches the end of her countdown. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

Nothing.

“Shit,” she mutters.

After a few tense moments Daryl points to the horizon. A herd of Walkers approaches. “Close enough,” Tara says. Daryl gets on his bike and the group gets ready to mobilize.

We have no idea what the group is doing on the road or why they’re waiting for this herd of Walkers, but somehow this herd factors into a plan. What’s interesting is Tara’s countdown. Why did they expect the herd to arrive at a certain point? How did they know they would show up at such a precise time? And why is “close enough” good enough for their plan?
