Bottle episodes on The Walking Dead have been a little controversial but it looks like there won’t be many in The Walking Dead season 8.

Season 7 of The Walking Dead was a little heavy on bottle episodes. Bottle episodes are episodes that are centered around just one or two characters. Usually, they are heavy on character development but a little light on story development.

A lot of fans felt that season 7 had too many bottle episodes. But apparently, that won’t be an issue in the upcoming season 8. On the Talking Dead season 8 preview special Scott Gimple said that there won’t really be time for many, if any, bottle episodes.

He said that the 8th season of The Walking Dead will be heavily action oriented. That makes sense considering that All Out War between the communities and Negan and The Saviors will be occupying probably most of the first half of the season.

Gimple also said that the first four episodes of The Walking Dead season 8 will have the most action of any season yet. The Survivors are taking the fight to Negan and The Saviors. And presumably, Negan and The Saviors aren’t going to take that well and will respond with their own battle plans and attacks.

The Saviors are by far the toughest threat Rick and the core group of survivors have ever faced. So it makes sense that battling them will involve some pretty hardcore action.

Why Fans Don’t Like Bottle Episodes

Some fans like bottle episodes, especially when they focus on some of the fan favorite characters. But many fans feel that the bottle episodes are too slow. Even though “Here’s Not Here”, Morgan’s bottle episode in season 6, was possibly one of the best episodes that the show has done some fans criticized it for not having enough action.

Fans also heavily criticized The Walking Dead season 7’s Tara centered bottle episode, “Swear”. Some fans felt that it didn’t offer much character development for Tara and it didn’t really advance the story. Considering that Oceanside wasn’t even brought into the story until later in season 7 there was some justification for that criticism.

The Walking Dead season 8

But it looks like the fans who don’t like bottle episodes won’t have much to complain about in season 8. From all accounts season 8 is going to start out with the same intensity and energy that The Walking Dead season 7 finale ended.
