There should be no surprises anymore in Fear the Walking Dead. In episode 312 “Brother’s Keeper” my prediction is that we’ll look into possible futures.

So far the second half of Fear the Walking Dead’s third season has been about Madison’s quest to stay at Broke Jaw Ranch and to remain there, making it the Clark family’s new home. But Madison’s kids have very different views shaped by their own experiences in the apocalypse, and my prediction for “Brother’s Keeper” is that things are going to start shifting toward possible futures for the Clark kids.

As Jake and Alicia have gotten closer, going from strategic partners to what looks to be an actual relationship, Jake feels comfortable telling Alicia that there are other communities like the one at Broke Jaw Ranch. In the sneak peek we see her talking about their future at the Ranch, building water reserves after it rains and getting more cattle, but Jake is not entirely focused on the Ranch. It’s hard to tell if that has to do with Walker’s people or his father’s legacy falling apart. But the mention of other communities is interesting because he’s telling her outright where they could go if the need to leave arises.

For her part, Alicia has been trying to be a good daughter, always doing what she’s told even though she has always taken a backseat to her troubled brother. Jake is in the same boat. Could the promise of a new life in another location be in their future? That conversation seems to be coming up this week.

Meanwhile, Troy is still out there somewhere and he’s bound to show up eventually. Nick and Jake have to go on a mission together in episode 312, and this will either bring them together or divide them further. If/When Troy shows up it’s quite possible that this biggest ally could be someone other than his own blood because Nick sees the value of both ways of thinking. Unlike Alicia’s more level-headed approach to life, Nick goes with the flow and his main concern is surviving.

The bottom line is that I predict that “Brother’s Keeper” is going to provide us with a look at what we can expect for the rest of season 3, possible setting up the story for the end of the season. After 312 there are only four episodes left so we’re going to have to start moving eventually. My guess is that things will start moving sooner rather than later.

Fear the Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9pm on AMC.
