8. Arriving At Alexandria

This image is iconic in The Walking Dead lore because it represents the end of one journey and the beginning of another. In season 8 and beyond fans will see Rick’s group of survivors start to rebuild society with the other communities. But that journey started here, when they made the decision to enter Alexandria and ended up finding a permanent home for the first time since the world ended.

It’s bittersweet to look back now at the images of the whole group together knowing that Glenn and Abe are gone. But the image of the group standing shoulder to shoulder and taking a risk together that they hoped would result in a new future is still powerful.

Alexandria is the first community that the group has found that they fought to defend rather than ran from. When walkers broke down the walls the survivors slaughtered them and rebuilt the walls. When the Wolves attacked the community fought back and fought for their home. When Negan and The Saviors tried to take over Rick’s group fought them off too. The message is clear: Alexandria is going to be around for a long time.

Alexandria has gone through a lot of changes, and lost a lot of community members. But the settlement still stands as a reminder of the power of a community that is united in one purpose. As the new society starts to take shape Rick and the core survivor group will stay and defend their home instead of running and going back out on the road.
