5. Rick Reacts To Lori’s Death
The moment that launched a thousand “Coral” memes…
The memes that spawned from this image are pretty funny but this moment was anything but. This was one of the moments that broke Rick and changed him forever. It took him a long time to get over losing Lori and the tragic circumstances of her death.
Finding out that Lori was dead and that Carl had been the one to put her down so that she didn’t turn into a walker nearly ended Rick. All of his efforts until that point had been trying to find Lori and Carl and then to keep them safe. A chapter of Rick’s life and one of his reasons for surviving ended when Judith was born.
Fans are divided over the character of Lori Grimes. She was an easy character to dislike and a lot of fans blame her for some of Rick’s worst decisions. Some hate her and some love her. But it’s pretty universally accepted that her decision to save Judith at all costs, even the cost of her life, redeemed the character and gave her a permanent place of respect in The Walking Dead lore. And as far as deaths go on the show it was a pretty good one.
Andrew Lincoln’s heartbreaking interpretation of the grief that Rick was feeling still brings fans to tears when they watch it. Because of that, and because of the many “Coral” memes that sprung from it this image has to be considered one of the most iconic images from The Walking Dead.
