Michonne was an outsider in season 3 when she appeared at the prison fence with baby formula. And Rick was hesitant to trust her. She wasn’t too sure she wanted to be part of the group either. Until she rescued Andrea Michonne was happy alone with her pet walkers. But she bonded first with Carl in the “Clear” episode and then with the others. Her acceptance in the group was solidified after Merle let her go instead of delivering her to The Governor. At that point she could have just gone off on her own again, but she returned to the group and wanted to stay with him.
After The Governor’s murder of Hershel and attack on the prison she hit a tough patch where she almost chose to go off alone again because she wasn’t sure she could handle losing people she loved again. But she got herself out that dark headspace and was able to reunite with Rick and Carl.
Michonne and Carl have always had a special relationship. Now that Michonne and Rick are together they have truly become a family. And Michonne is going to be the rock that Rick leans on as he grapples with the coming war. What does Danai Gurira want for Michonne going forward? She said:
"“Firstly, I think Michonne needs like a crew cut. Like, I think she needs like to take it down to like Demi Moore in G.I. Jane, you know? Something like that. We need to get that going. I also think Michonne should have this sort of superhuman evolution thing happen where she has triplets in, like, four months — helping to repopulate, you know? We’ll get that going. We don’t need no nine-month pregnancies. That’s way too long! So let’s just figure out how to quicken up that process. Evolution’s happening at the same time as the world is ending. You know how it goes.”"
Richonne triplets? We’re all about that Danai. The fandom is here for that. And the faster the better. Judith needs some more siblings.
