The Walking Dead Executive Producer Gale Anne Hurd is also producing a new original Amazon series based on the popular horror podcast Lore.

The Walking Dead’s Gale Anne Hurd is also producing the new Amazon series Lore, which premieres today on Amazon for Prime members. Glenn Morgan, who worked on The X Files, is the showrunner.

Lore is based on the popular horror podcast of the same name. With more than 3 million monthly listeners Lore is one of the most popular podcasts on the air. Amazon is hoping to enhance the podcast by bringing the spooky tales and chilling stories behind folklore tales to the screen.

Lore is a horror podcast that explores the real life stories that inspired both modern and ancient horror tales. Some you have probably heard of before, like the story behind Robert the Doll, and some you may have never heard of.

Back in 2016 when it was announced that Amazon had ordered the original series Gale Anne Hurd said:

"“Being a horror aficionado, Aaron Mahnke’s ‘Lore’ podcast captivated me from the very beginning as it explores the terrifying truth behind the world’s most frightening legends,” said Hurd. “And just as Mahnke revolutionized the serial podcast, Amazon is reinventing the unscripted series—and I couldn’t be more excited about the mashup.”"

Lore The Podcast

Lore was started by Aaron Mahnke back in 2015. Each episode of the podcast is 30 minutes and tells the tale of the real life inspiration for some of folklore’s darkest tales.

Some of the episodes tell ancient stories, like an episode that delves into the real life crimes of Elizbeth Bathory. Others are more modern tales ranging from exploring the history of insane asylums that are now widely believed to be haunted to serial killers and of course popular modern folklore creatures like the Mothman.

All the stories featured on Lore are true, and involve hours of painstaking research done by Mahnke and his team. By uncovering these dark but true tales Mahnke shines a light on the dark side of folklore. And horror fans can’t get enough of it.

Lore The Show

In October of 2016 Amazon announced that it had ordered a short series based on the Lore podcast. The first season has six episodes, all of which are available now on Amazon. As The Walking Dead has proved by becoming the number one show on cable TV there is a huge demand for horror related TV shows.

Streaming services like Netflix and Amazon are stepping up to fill that demand with shows like Stranger Things and now Lore. It’s great to see streaming services are willing to take chances on shows that are a little bit strange, a little bit spooky, and a whole lot darker than most of the shows that larger networks are willing to take chances on.

So celebrate Friday the 13th by streaming all six episodes of Lore and get ready for the return of The Walking Dead which premieres in just 9 days with the 100th episode and the start of All Our War between Rick and Negan.
