Jeffrey Dean Morgan on monumental Negan/Carl/Rick ‘cut his arm’ scene being his biggest regret:

“For me, it was the Carl ‘cut his arm off’ to Rick scene. That was a rough scene. *Morgan gets emotional*. That was for me, as a dad too, you can’t help but think about that stuff every now and again. As much fun as I had that whole episode, that was a rough way to go.

Even worse than the killing of Glenn and Abraham, I think was trying to make a dad cut off his son’s arm. That being said! I don’t really take it back. *Smiles*. It was important for character development, and I’m talking about Rick!”

Though we know actors aren’t the same as their characters, it’s sometimes difficult to break that distinction. One gets used to watching them in a certain role. So, some might be surprised to learn that the monumental, brutal Rick/Negan/Carl ‘cut his arm off’ scene deeply effected Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Especially, as a real-life father himself.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan got deeply emotional when discussing the hard scene, his voice subtly changing. Only lightening things up at the end with a classic Negan like line about not taking it back. Saying it was important for Rick’s character development to laughter from the whole room.
