7 Cool Moments from The Walking Dead’s NYCC Press Conference
By Nir Regev
1) Andrew Lincoln and Greg Nicotero on Rick’s infamous ‘snot’ in the legendary Rick/Negan/Carl Scene
UndeadWalking.com – Nir Regev: “There’s scenes out of The Walking Dead, that I feel you can take out of the show that still become universal like the Nebraska scene. And most recently, and I thought it was the best scene out of The Walking Dead was the Negan, Carl, Rick scene. My question is to Andy, what does it take to deliver that kind of scene. I mean I remember people joking that there was snot coming out of your nose or whatever. Do you do method actin-
Andrew Lincoln: Who makes fun of my snot? I want names right now! Which country?! That has a problem with my snot?!
UD: It was that Hardwick!
Greg Nicotero: We left that snot in for a very specific reason.
Andrew Lincoln: It’s like a virus.
Greg Nicotero: Because there have been other instances where the snot was digitally erased in previous shots. And when we did that take…
Andrew Lincoln: Now you’re a snotty man! Do you have a person that just looks out for my snot?
Greg Nicotero: Well it’s hard to miss! *laughs*. Sorry.
Andrew Lincoln: You know this was a serious question and we’ve f***** it up.
UD: It’s okay, I’ve enjoyed it.
Andrew Lincoln: We’re very lucky that we have an amazing bunch of person that work in front and in back of camera. And I think one of the luxuries of this job is that you feel that you can fail. It’s a safe space, and it was established in the first ever episode with this gentleman here who did all the heavy lifting.
Greg Nicotero: Failing?
Andrew Lincoln: No, snot! There you go! *smiles* I think that we just kind of got lucky and it’s one of these parts and environments as an actor that are just sort of gold dust. You get to flex your muscles, you get to not just talk about some procedural drama. You get to deal with big issues of life and death. And so you get to do exercise, you get to work out as an actor in a crazy, crazy place.
The beautiful thing is this season more than any other, I’ve been really nervous about certain scenes. And to be nervous going to work after 8 years is testament to the writers room.
UD: Thank you!
Andrew Lincoln: Thank you!
