Gabriel stopped Rick Grimes from taking out Negan once and for all on The Walking Dead, ruining everything for the umpteenth time!

The man is simply diabolical! Routinely clumsy in his advice. First the betrayal at Alexandria, when he thought he was being covert tattling on Rick and the gang to leader Deanna. Ruining Rick Grimes’ good name, unprovoked. After all that Rick did for Gabriel getting him even to the point of new residency. Flash forward to The Walking Dead’s season 8’s premiere, Rick has Negan on the run.

Literally, Negan is right there for the picking, all Rick has to do is focus and the whole Savior battle is over. Their leader about to meet his demise, vengeance fulfilled, friends avenged, communities united, clear blue skies and birds chirping….

Then Mr. Gabriel Stokes has to follow through with another colossal doozy. “Hey Rick, you said this isn’t about you, remember?” Are you serious Gabriel? It was totally about Rick Grimes! Rick of course, relents to save face while understandably being miffed at the whole thing. Not to mention, making the whole moment feel straight out of a cartoon series. When the bad guy or even good guys are trapped but there’s some excuse so they can get away and the show can continue.

Austin Powers Exit Clause for Negan

More from Undead Walking

You remember that scene in Austin Powers when Dr. Evil’s son asks him why he doesn’t just finish Powers now instead of an elaborate setup [sharks with laser beams]? Dr. Evil tells him he just doesn’t understand the finer points of being evil.

Powers naturally gets away a scene later to no one’s surprise. That’s how this scene felt, Rick just has to leave so the show can go on so to speak.

Rick Grimes should have pulled a ‘just give me five more minutes, promise’ on Gabriel.

Negan’s statement to Gabriel Stokes

When Negan tells Gabriel he hopes he has his s******pants on, he’s actually referring to Rick Grimes next time he encounters the man privately… Away from the group.

Now Gabriel Stokes didn’t just lose Rick and the gang a valuable opportunity to put an end to this whole Savior feud but he’s a bargaining chip after getting himself captured.

We’ll see if Gabriel redeems himself on next week’s Walking Dead episode. For now though… He’s ruined everything for Rick Grimes. Again.
