For National Cat Day, let’s take a moment to celebrate The Walking Dead’s most famous feline, Shiva. This is one tiger that knows how to make an entrance.

From the first moment that we met Shiva, sitting beside King Ezekiel’s throne, we knew that she was much more than your average cat. Ezekiel’s tiger is his loyal companion and she plays a big role in Ezekiel’s “performance” at the Kingdom while also serving a major role in the surprise attack in Alexandria in the season 7 finale of The Walking Dead.

Animals haven’t had much luck on The Walking Dead. From Rick’s horse in Atlanta to turtles, pigs, opossums and to the pack of dogs that showed up on the highway at the wrong time, animals have never had much of a chance in the zombie apocalypse.

And then there’s Shiva.

If not for Ezekiel’s intervention, Shiva wouldn’t have survived much longer. Now they’re loyal companions and they have a very special bond between them. It’s not surprising to see that she is at Ezekiel’s side in battle and in the preparations for battle. (How cute was it to see her lounging in the back of the truck during Ezekiel’s speech!)

It was Shiva who swooped in and threw the Saviors off in the Battle for Alexandria, giving the Kingdom and the Hilltop the added layer of surprise when they came to Rick’s defense in the season finale. There was nothing better than seeing Negan’s shocked reaction to Shiva’s entrance into the foray, taking out several Saviors and sending a message that you can’t mess with the Kingdom.

You can imagine that there were some questions being asked given that Negan had no idea the Kingdom had a tiger.

More from Undead Walking

We all know that there is source material that the writers are working from, and Shiva fits into those stories. We can hope that she makes it out of all of this in one piece. It would be great to see one animal in The Walking Dead universe have a happy ending, right?
