The 10 saddest deaths from AMC’s The Walking Dead season 1-7
By Sonya Iryna
9. Mika Samuels
The parallels between Mika and Carol’s daughter Sophia were pretty clear from the start. Both were innocent and sweet children who had a lot of trouble adapting to the post-apocalypse world. Maybe neither of them were really meant to survive in that world. But Mika’s death was even more tragic because it was at the hands of someone she loved and trusted.
Mika was stabbed to death by her sister Lizzie. Lizzie thought that walkers were still sentient beings, just a different kind of living thing. Of course, Lizzie was very wrong. But in her determination to prove to Carol and Tyreese that walkers are people too she murdered her little sister. And she was about to kill Judith when Carol and Tyreese returned and saw Mika.
Mika’s death was extremely difficult for Carol. It had to be like losing her daughter all over again when she found Mika dead in a pool of blood. And knowing that Lizzie killed her, in order to get Mika to turn, made it clear to Carol that Lizzie could not be allowed to live.
In the end, it may have been a gentler death than Mika would have suffered if she had been killed later on by a walker or by another person. But the impact of Mika’s death on Carol and the tragedy of such a young and innocent child being murdered in cold blood made her death one of the saddest that the show has had.
