Abe’s death was really difficult to watch. But true to form he went out with an Abeism. Abe’s death was particularly sad because he and Sasha had just really found the beginnings of their love. Abe went through a very dark period after Eugene revealed that he didn’t actually have a cure for the virus. Abe lost his purpose for living. His unshakable confidence was shaken. And he was reeling for a bit until he and Sasha made a real connection.

Abe finally was able to start thinking about the future and what life could be for him. He even was thinking that maybe he and Sasha could have a child. Like a good soldier and a good leader he had Rick’s back and did whatever had to be done to ensure the survival of Alexandria. But in the end that wasn’t enough to keep him alive.

It was fitting in a way that Lucille was Abe’s cause of death. Can you imagine anything else that could take out Abraham? He was tough as nails and stubborn as a mule. It would have been a disservice to the character if he had been taken out by an accident, or by a random walker encounter. Abe was a fighter to the end and he got the “good” death that every soldier wants. But his wit and Abeisms will be missed forever.
