One Tender Moment

Rick and Morales continue to face off. Morales tells Rick to put his guns down and Rick complies. He can’t believe this is the same “Rick from Alexandria.” Morales says he knows who Rick is and he knew how Rick got there. They aren’t the same men they used to be. Morales says Rick is a prize and he isn’t to kill them. Rick, Maggie and Ezekiel are not to be killed. Morales wants to know what Rick is looking for. He says his people are coming and they will take Rick to Negan.

Aaron’s fight is still going. The Saviors have a second wind and they’re fighting hard. Suddenly they stop and it’s clear they’re shooting at someone else. Behind them is another raid.

Aaron takes Eric to a tree and checks his wound. There’s an exit wound, so that’s good. Probably doesn’t help the pain, though. Aaron wants to take Eric to the Kingdom’s doctor. He apologizes, and Eric wonders if Aaron shot him. Aaron says he pulled Eric into the fight, but Eric insists that he wanted to fight. He says Aaron needs to go back and fight because they need him. Eric tells him he loves him and he tells Aaron he is right. They kiss. Eric is the strong one while Aaron weeps. He tells Aaron to stand up and fight, and to win.

Tara looks at the Saviors walking behind the truck and pretends to shoot them. She knows Maggie will know what to do with them because she knows what they did. Morgan and Jesus walk with the prisoners and Morgan stops one of the Saviors from whistling. Jesus says they will figure out what to do at the Hilltop, but Jesus says they’re still people. He says there are many types of people but they don’t execute people. Morgan has, though.

Rick asks about Morales’ family. They never made it to Birmingham. Rick is sorry. He lost Lori, Shane, Andrea, Glenn. He says Negan killed Glenn, on his knees, bashed his head in with his pregnant wife watching. Morales learns that Glenn’s wife is “the widow.” Rick wants to know if he’s Negan, too. He says he lost everyone, lost his mind. He needed something, and the Saviors found him and thought he was worth saving. “So yeah, I’m Negan,” he says. “I had to be.” Rick says they aren’t the same, but Morales says they are both willing to do what it takes to keep going. Only in this case, Morales has a gun. Morales knows that if Rick had the gun he’d be dead by now. Rick says he wouldn’t want to kill him, but Morales thinks he’s blowing steam. He says they’re all dead, and so is Officer Friendly. That’s what he knows. He turns around and Daryl shoots him. Daryl says it doesn’t matter, not one bit. Daryl asks about the guns, and Rick says they aren’t there. Rick says they need to get out before the Saviors arrive.
