The Walking Dead 803 recap: ‘Monsters’
Merciful Maggie?
Enid watches the wall back at the Hilltop. A car approaches, horn honking. Gregory knocks on the gate. He says he needs help. The gates open, barely, and he wonders if the gate is broken. Maggie wants to know what he’s doing with Gabriel’s car. Gregory says the car was just there and the Hilltop is his home. He built the place, and even though she wasn’t there for that he’s trying to save everyone. He went to Negan trying to save them. Maggie says he went to the Sanctuary to rat them out. He blames Kal for being delusional, but Kal flips him off. Finally, Gregory admits he went there to be safe, but now he sees that you can’t bargain with the Saviors and they can’t be reasoned with. He says he’s sorry. He asks if this is who she is. She and Enid listen as he begs for Mercy. Slowly, Maggie turns around and allows him inside. Enid can’t believe it. She says he’s not worth killing, yet.
Kal calls to Maggie–Jesus and Tara have arrived. Gregory tries to tell Maggie to not let them in so she sends him away. Tara says that she agrees with Gregory on this one. Maggie is concerned about the families at the Hilltop but he says they surrendered. Jesus points out that they can’t let them go and they can’t kill them.
The dead start to rise back at the outposts, eating the dead Saviors. They are slowly killed off as Daryl and Rick and everyone else clear the area. Rick documents some of the dead with his polaroid camera. The injured are loaded into trucks. Rick writes a message to on a pad of paper and tucks it away.
Aaron goes back and finds that Eric is gone. He sees Eric wandering away and realizes his lover is a Walker now. Through tears, Aaron goes after him but sees that Eric is moving toward a herd. One of the Hilltoppers tries to stop him but he can’t let him go. He is led away.
