The Walking Dead live ratings rise and extended views surge
By Sonya Iryna
The Walking Dead saw an increase in live views this week and saw a surge in extended views for “Monsters”.
The Walking Dead’s ratings continue to lead the pack for Sunday nights. Live views for the show were up slightly this week. The fourth episode of Season 8 “Some Guy” had 8.6 million live views, which is slightly more than the previous episode, “Monsters”.
In Live+3 views however “Monsters” picked up a gain of 42% in DVR and On Demand views. The episode had 3.5 million additional views in extended viewing. That large increase in views pushed The Walking Dead ahead of stalwart Monday Night Football in Live+3 views for the week.
Some critics say that the show’s lower live ratings indicate that fans are not happy with the show’s new direction or the execution of All Out War storyline. But, The Walking Dead is still firmly on top of Sunday night ratings.
Extended view ratings for the most recent episode, “Some Guy” are not yet available but will probably show a gain of about 2-3 million. The Walking Dead has consistently been picking up several million views in extended viewing each week.
The Mid Season Finale
It’s hard to believe that the midseason finale is already looming. But the next three episodes heading into the midseason finale should see a rise in both live and extended views. Typically the midseason finale is a pivotal episode for the season.

This year it looks like there will be some sort of big battle or confrontation between Rick’s alliance and Negan and The Saviors. So far the two groups haven’t faced off in any kind of orchestrated face to face battle in the war.
The midseason finale has an extended running time and so probably is going to be a major battle. After losing fan favorite character Shiva last week fans may not be ready to face another major loss. Hopefully all the main characters will come out of the midseason finale alive but there’s never any guarantee of that on The Walking Dead.
