Lesson #4: If it ain’t broke, DON’T “fix” it.

Let me begin this by saying the following: No plan is foolproof or perfect. There is always the chance things could go sideways or something could happen you weren’t expecting.

That said, if you have a plan that is working, the smart play is…TO NOT MESS WITH IT!

Seriously, if something is working according to plan, why, on God’s green Earth, would you intentionally meddle with it? It is nearly the very definition of counter-productive. When a plan is working, just let it keep doing that. Only when things have gone awry should you interfere with it.

An example of what not to do can be found by watching Daryl and Tara’s plan to accelerate The Saviors’ surrender by driving a truck through the entrance of the The Sanctuary.

The original plan was that, once Rick made a deal with The Scavengers, he would demand Negan surrender, knowing that The Sanctuary couldn’t hold out during the siege much longer.

When Rick arrived to show Jadis that the plan was working, he suddenly found zero walkers outside The Sanctuary.

Granted, Eugene may have found a solution to the siege, but, I have the oddest feeling that, by letting the herd in and forcing The Saviors to deal with it, Daryl and Tara only succeeded in accelerating their effort to deal with it. Had the threat not been so immediate, they may have taken their time, giving Rick the chance to return and force their surrender.

Now, we’ll never know if Rick’s plan would have worked…because certain people had to mess with it.

I can’t stress this enough: If you have a plan that’s working in a zombie apocalypse, just let it be. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
