The Level Headed One

Gavin was the sole level-headed one among Negan’s lieutenants until Eugene came along. We’ve seen Gavin in action when he showed up at supply drops at the Kingdom. If not for the circumstances, he’s probably a very easygoing guy who would be an asset to any team he’s on. If not for the zombie apocalypse, he’d probably be a guy you’d invite to a backyard BBQ.

When Jared killed Benjamin, Gavin knew this was a big moment. It was a turning point that proved beyond doubt that the Saviors are dangerous and that the Kingdom was now alerted to the fact that their “deal” was written on tissue paper. It can’t hold any weight.

When Negan disappeared, it was Gavin who didn’t want to do anything rash. He was on the side of moving cautiously and he uttered more than a few epithets in “The Big Scary U” to voice his complete disdain for the entire situation.

Guys like Gavin are exactly who Negan wants in his inner circle. The problem, as we’ve seen, is that if you don’t keep the worst of the worst close, you end up with a coup. Gavin knows why Negan is critical when it comes to keeping the Saviors in line, and since it’s likely that Gavin wants no part in running the Big Show, he’ll work to keep Negan safe so he doesn’t have to deal with any crap.
