Nothing Is Fair

The Saviors unload all of the cars except for the one that Maggie and Jesus are in. Simon demands the guns. They’re using Jerry as bait in case anyone doesn’t obey. Simon takes Maggie’s gun.

The Saviors prepare to go inside as Negan tells Rick that they have to go “scorched earth” because he didn’t obey. “He’s not home,” Carl says. Negan is so proud. Carl says there are families inside. Kids, including Judith. Negan says they also had kids, including the baby at the outpost. “None of this shit’s fair, kid.” He knows Carl knows this all too well. Negan says someone needs to be in charge to make sure nothing happens. Carl tries to reason with him, and Negan wants apologies. Carl offers to die. “Kill me!” Carl says. Negan stops. If there needs to be a punishment, then Carl offers himself. Negan asks if he wants to die, and he doesn’t, but he will eventually. If he can stop the battle by dying, for everyone, for the kids, then dying is worth it. Carl asks if it was supposed to be this way. Is this who Negan wants to be?

Inside, Daryl leads the trucks out of Alexandria. Of course, there are Saviors waiting for them. Regina and Dwight are there and Dwight doesn’t seem too surprised that they escaped. They get into cars and leave.

Negan asks if he was delaying him or if they were having a moment. He orders his people to start firing.
