3. Carl Tells Rick To Cut Off His Arm

Season 7, “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be”

After the traumatizing deaths of Glenn and Abe in The Walking Dead “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be” Negan continued to terrorize Rick, trying to break him. He nearly succeeded when he told Rick to cut Carl’s hand off. If Rick refused Negan said that he would kill everyone in the group. All the people that he and Carl loved, including Michonne and Maggie and Baby Rhee. And Negan would have killed Carl as well. So Rick, screaming, prepared to cut off Carl’s hand.

And Carl, again showing that incredible strength and presence of mind, told Rick to cut his hand off. He didn’t want Rick to be tortured even more by seeing him cry and scream and he was not about to beg Negan for anything. In a heartbeat Carl resigned himself to losing a limb rather than watch everyone that he and his father loved get murdered the way that Glenn and Abe had just been murdered. Rick, with Abe’s blood still on his face, was ready to chop off Carl’s hand.

And Carl was willing to lose his hand to save the people he loved. Just the way that Rick would have willingly cut off his own hand to save Carl and the others. When things went bad, as they often do on The Walking Dead, Carl never once backed down or showed any fear. He always put the others before himself in everything that he did.
