The Walking Dead, Red Machete, Part 1: Things To Note

Part 1 — “Behind Us”
1) The Red Machete’s first owner is a young man who attempts to kill a walker with it in Gerald’s Hardware but fails. We never learn the name of this unfortunate individual.
2) Considering how otherwise intact the hardware store appears to be, this portion of the webisode likely takes place on the first or second day of the outbreak.
3) It’s interesting that, during the “running out of food” montage, Alyssa is never shown being taught any survival skills, unlike her sister. In fact, Alyssa seems largely indifferent to the situation, spending most of her time listening to music.
4) Alyssa is the first child seen attacked (And presumably eaten) in any The Walking Dead (Or Fear The Walking Dead) webisode.
5) Alyssa is grabbed by a lurker because of her long hair, prompting David to cut her sister’s hair. This is similar to the reason Maggie chose to cut her hair in Season Six’s “East”.
6) None of the characters are named in this episode. None of them speak, either.
7) This episode’s name may come from the fact that the zombie which grabbed Alyssa was, from her family’s perspective “Behind us”. The title may also refer to the fact these events take place far before the present point of the series and is thus behind “us”, the audience.
