68. Daryl Finds Carol Alive

Episode 306 “Hounded”

The group assumed the Carol had died when they found her head wrap on the ground and there was no sign of her. But in “Hounded” Daryl had followed a trail into the depths of the prison. He heard some noises coming from behind a closed closet door. He assumed it was walker Carol.

He sat outside the door for awhile, unable to bring himself to look and see if the noises were walker Carol. In a poignant sequence he spent a few minutes psyching himself up to fling open the door and find out. He was ready to face his worst fear – that Carol had been killed and turned.

But he found Carol, alive but weak. It was such a great moment that really showed the depth of the feelings between these two characters. Whether they ever become a couple or not they are deeply connected in friendship. And the relief and happiness on his face when he realized she was alive was wonderful to see.

Finding Carol alive also turned out to be a great thing for the group because of the survival machine she’s become. Carol has saved the group as a whole and individually more than once. She is truly an apocalypse force of nature.
