During Rick’s mission to recruit allies to fight Negan and the Saviors, he comes across the Scavengers. Led by the oddly inarticulate Jadis, the Scavengers live in the middle of a garbage heap and they will only pledge their allegiance to Rick in return for a certain amount of guns and supplies.

In order to prove his worthiness, Rick is thrown into a pit and forced to fight an armored Walker whose name is Winslow. Winslow is a Walker covered in armor, including large metal spikes coming from all parts of his body. Rick is immediately injured by the spikes before figuring out how to defeat him, and upon killing Winslow he is welcomed by Jadis, who offers to make the deal.

Interestingly, Jadis also has a deal with Negan, but we don’t learn this until the Scavengers turn on Rick during the siege at Alexandria.
