In the season 4 premiere of The Walking Dead, life at the prison was pretty close to everything the survivors dreamed it would be. The group had figured out a ways to raise crops and livestock as well as set up a system for the children to be taken care of and a way to prepare in case the group from Woodbury attacks them again.

While other survivors were training, Carol was left to watch the kids in the library. Using the cover of ‘story time’ to keep the adults away, she would take the time to teach the youngsters of the community how to handle some smaller weapons like blades and clubs to keep themselves safe.

For Carol, this was a big move. She had lost Sophia back at the prison and now saw a bunch of kids that might never get the opportunity to learn how to fight for themselves against the undead or other survivors if they needed to do so without an adult around.

Sadly, she had to hide this teaching from the group. Others wanted to protect the children from any kind of fighting situation, but Carol got caught teaching the youngsters how to use knives when Carl went to story time. Surprised by this, Carol asked Carl not to tell his dad about what he saw happening during storytime. However, Carl definitely didn’t like what Carol was doing and stormed out of the room.
