35. Meeting Morgan Again

Rick encounters Morgan later on in his journey, but he’s a shell of the man he used to be. This Morgan can’t form coherent sentences. He lives in a room with walls covered in writing. He has built a fortress to protect himself and he has a massive cache of weapons. And, most importantly, he’s alone.

Upon discovering his former savior, Rick is startled to see what has become of the man he once knew. Though he’d promised to keep in touch with him via radio, Rick wasn’t able to keep up his end of the bargain after the radio died, and he never knew what befell his friend. Through moments of clarity Rick learns that Morgan’s son died shortly after Rick left, and this led to Morgan’s undoing. Rick wonders if there is anything he could have done differently, but they were on different paths at the time. After Morgan attacks him.

At first Rick wants to bring Morgan back with him, but he soon realizes that Morgan is too dangerous. He doesn’t have it in him to kill him, though, and instead Morgan is left to his own devices…for now.
