28. Maggie Punches Gregory And Takes Back The Watch

Episode 705, “Go Getters”

Original Airdate: 11/20/2016

Submitted By: Sonya Iryna

There were a lot of emotional highs and lows in season 7. One of the highs was definitely watching Maggie punch Gregory and school him to get her name right. It’s been really wonderful to see how Maggie has channeled her grief over losing Glenn into carrying his legacy as well as their child.

When she snarled at Gregory to get name right and announced her name was Maggie Rhee it was a triumphant moment that showed Maggie isn’t going to let anyone forget about Glenn. And she’s not going to let a weak and ineffective leader like Gregory get away with pushing people around at The Hilltop.

Maggie has been through so much. Losing everyone she loved would have broken a woman that didn’t have Maggie’s inner strength of character. Some of that she got from Hershel, and some of it she got from Glenn. It’s heartwarming to see her find that inner strength and use it to find the courage to lead instead of just falling apart.

Maggie is going to be a force to be reckoned with. After the war, assuming she survives, she will be a powerful leader and a catalyst to create a society that both Glenn and Hershel would be proud of.

Usually becoming the moral compass of the group means that a character is probably going to not make it out of the season. But Maggie will be around for a long time yet and will continue to guide The Hilltop and influence Rick and the others to live for the things that were so important to Glenn and Hershel: family, community, and loyalty.
