Danai Gurira appeared on Jimmy Kimmel to promote her new film Black Panther and she talks about the experience of shaving her head for the role.

Marvel’s Black Panther is already generating a lot of buzz though the film hasn’t been released yet. The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on January 31 to promote the film and talk about how she prepared for the role.

Gurira plays Okoye, leader of the all-female group whose job is to protect the king of Wakanda, T’Challa. From the look of the previews, playing Michonne in The Walking Dead has helped Gurira to embrace Okoye because both characters know how to kick ass and take names. Gurira told Jimmy Kimmel that her role on The Walking Dead helped her when it comes to keeping the plot a secret. Keeping secrets for Marvel is a lot like keeping secrets for The Walking Dead, and Gurira assured her Marvel bosses that she’s a pro when it comes to staying mum during interviews so as to avoid leaks.

Kimmel asked Gurira about shaving her head and Gurira admits that it was a huge experience for her. Watching her hair falling to the ground was shocking enough, but then the movie’s stylists insisted on shaving her head so that they could apply Okoye’s trademark head tattoos. Seeing her reflection in the mirror took a lot of getting used to.

Gurira also talked about being starstruck at the Black Panther premiere when she and her guests met Snoop Dogg. She said she used to dance to his music growing up in Zimbabwe and meeting him was quite the experience.

Black Panther just might be one of the biggest movies we’ve seen in a long time. The film, which premieres on February 16, is doing very well in advanced ticket sales and will no doubt set a box office benchmark for other films yet to come in 2018.
