Fans in attendance at the 2018 Walker Stalker Cruise were in for a special treat as The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus reveals his name for his crossbow.

It’s no secret that people like to give names to inanimate objects, and this is particularly true on The Walking Dead. Negan has Lucille, his barbed-wire bedazzled baseball bat. The Saviors had a truck full of speakers called “The Fat Lady” because the truck was used as a grand finale for big fights. Daryl has a crossbow, and it turns out that Norman Reedus has a name for his character’s weapon.

During the 2018 Walker Stalker Cruise that departed New Orleans for Cozumel, Mexico, actor Norman Reedus gave fans some insight about his beloved crossbow. Though the weapon doesn’t have an official name, he has given it a name of its own and it’s actually pretty cute: Mary Anne.

“Well, secretly I call it Mary Anne, because that’s my mom’s name,” Reedus said. He was on stage with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman when he made the revelation, which drew a warm reception from the crowd.

Reedus naming his crossbow after his mother is sweet, albeit a bit weird considering the weapon is used to kill the undead on the show. But in many ways there could be no better name.

On the show, Negan named his bat Lucille after his late wife. He was unfaithful to her in her last days as she succumbed to cancer, and so Lucille the bat is a daily reminder of her loss.

Needless to say, Mary Anne is going to see lots of action in The Walking Dead when it returns on February 25.
