The Walking Dead fans come together to honor Danai Gurira

The Walking Dead fans are passionate about supporting their favorite actors and actresses from the show. One fan launched a very special campaign in honor of Danai Gurira’s birthday.

Any fans of The Walking Dead who have been active on social media know the TWD Family passionately supports the other projects that the actors and actresses of The Walking Dead are involved in. One fan, Christina McDaniel, created a very special campaign to honor Danai Gurira on her upcoming birthday.

Since Danai’s birthday is February 14th, Valentine’s Day, McDaniel thought that raising money to support a cause very close to Gurira’s heart would be a fantastic way to honor the actress. So she launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the Almasi Arts Alliance.

Danai Gurira is a co-founder of Almasi Arts Alliance, an organization that works to provide opportunities and creative exchanges between African artists and American artists. Storytelling is one of the most powerful tools to foster cultural understanding, so the mission of the Almasi Arts Alliance is a very important one.

Christina McDaniel hopes to raise at least $500 that will be donated directly to the Almasi Arts Alliance in honor of Danai’s birthday.

Why Raise Money For The Almasi Arts Alliance

When I asked Christina what inspired her to launch this campaign she had this to say:

"First of all, Thanks for taking the time to highlight the Crowdrise campaign for the Almasi Arts Alliance created in honor of Danai’s 40th birthday!I’ve been following Danai’s work since she first made her appearance as the Katana wielding queen on The Walking Dead. The more I learned about her the more inspired I became. Her Love Our Girls organization really resonated with me and led me to want to learn more about other projects she’s involved with.When I read about how Almasi Arts is an exchange program that facilitates artistic collaborations between African artists and American artists I fell in love with the idea. Danai is a fascinating playwright who is passionate about sharing stories of African women through her narratives.I have learned so much from reading her work, and I see how the work that Almasi Arts is doing is on showcase in the brilliant productions they stage. Starting this campaign was not only a wonderful way to support Almasi Arts Alliance but also a great gift for Danai’s Birthday.My fellow The Walking Dead fans have been amazing in their support by helping me spread the word on social media and by their generous donations. Thanks to the fans we’re almost to our campaign goal!"
