The bad things from TWD 809

  1. Weird country music during the Carl bite montage. Admittedly, I’m not a fan of country/bluegrass to start with. However, this music did absolutely nothing to help out the power of the scene showing him preparing to say his farewell to everyone.
  2. Too much recapping. We already knew that Carl was bitten by a walker while fighting the undead with Siddiq. Using TV time to do this and extending the episode to do so felt every redundant. Perhaps this is a point that needed to be hammered home for some but felt overdone.
  3. Chopping up Carl’s goodbye. It would have been great to get a full, emotional episode to say goodbye without interruption. The jumping around of stories breaks up the story and takes some of the power away, but hopefully combining the storylines in this episode are logical in heading into next week.
  4. The Saviors are so unorganized. Either Gavin is a horrible leader when it comes to his group or the people he is leading don’t follow rules well at all. Plus, the group in Alexandria were being so loud in the sewer that I’m shocked nobody heard them. If they are planning on winning based on manpower alone, that’s not going to happen.
  5. Toying with Gavin. Morgan has shown no compassion or hesitation in killing any members of The Saviors, yet when he was tasked with finishing off Gavin, he took his time, walked slowly, and watched him struggle. It was odd to see a ‘killer’ version of Morgan act this way until Henry finished him off.
